Climate Change 

India proposes eve of Cancun climate meeting 

“India is set to host the final meeting of the Major Economies Forum (MEF) ahead of the November's UN climate change summit in Mexico, in an effort to break the deadlock surrounding the transfer of clean technologies to developing economies.”

Fixing responsibility 

“A team of researchers in India has developed a carbon budget model that offers a better perspective for climate change negotiations. Equity is one of the core principles of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), as reflected in the “principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities”. But putting this into operation taking into account the historical emissions by industrialized nations and the consequences for developing nations has proved to be a difficult proposition in climate negotiations.”

Indian Ocean sea levels rise uneven 

“We all know that Indian Ocean sea levels are rising. But, a new study says that its rising unevenly. And of course threatening residents in some densely populated coastal areas and islands. Sea level rise is particularly high along the coastlines of the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea, Sri Lanka, Sumatra and Java. It may aggravate monsoon flooding in Bangladesh and India-could have future impacts on both regional and global climate.”

Energy 

India takes a big leap in renewable energy 

“The United Nations listed India as the fifth biggest wind and solar water heating energy producer in a report released on Friday. The report, Global Trends in Green Energy 2009, says the developing world is taking a lead in adopting new renewable technologies. For the first time, private sector green energy investments in Asia and Oceania, some $40.8 billion in 2009, exceeded that in the Americas, at $32.3 billion, the report said.”

Renewable energy supply can meet the 2015 target 

“Energy from renewable sources can meet the 10 percent target set by the National Action Plan on Climate Change by 2015, a top power sector official said here Wednesday.”

Tata Power gets first CDM project registered 

“India's largest private power utility, Tata Power, Wednesday announced the approval of its first clean development mechanism (CDM) registered project.”

India Inc renews call for Green Business 

India Inc on Thursday renewed its call for Green Business with a new vigour and constructive approach at Green Business Summit 2010 held in Delhi. The Summit was organized by Curtains Up and powered by www.economictimes.com in order to bring in impetus for low carbon business."

Tirupati Becomes the First City in India to Join the Cree LED City(R) Program 

Cree, Inc,  a market leader in LED lighting, announces that Tirupati Municipal Corporation in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, India has joined the Cree LED City(R) initiative, an international program that promotes the deployment of energy-efficient LED (light-emitting diode) lighting. Tirupati converted more than 140 street lights to LED fixtures in order to better light two of the city's busiest roads.”

Statement From Tim Sullivan, President and CEO of Bucyrus International, Inc. Regarding U.S. Export-Import Bank's Decision to Approve Environmental Aspects of Its Project With Reliance Power 

"On behalf of all the employees of Bucyrus, we would like to praise the U.S. Export-Import Bank for approving the environmental aspects of the Reliance Power Project application, which will allow us to provide mining equipment to the Indian project moving forward. This is the first step in the process to provide financing, which will create nearly 1,000 jobs across 13 states in the U.S., as indicated by a study conducted by the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce. We are confident that the remaining steps of this process, including financial review, will be completed expeditiously in order to allow Reliance Power to proceed with its project plan."

India-U.S. ties to grow on ‘very promising trajectory’: Blake 

“Broadly speaking, relations between the United States and India have never been better, and are likely to continue on their very promising trajectory — both in the near future and over the long-term,” Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Robert Blake said.”

Chief Justice creates additional Forest Bench 

“Chief Justice of India Justice S.H. Kapadia on Friday streamlined the hearing of environmental issues and appointed an additional bench to hear the cases.
Taking into considerations the delay in cases relating to mining, forest etc, the Chief Justice has taken this step.”
