About
- Bio:
In 12 years as a newspaper reporter, I covered everything from hurricanes to highways to homeland security. I also held a thrashing baby shark in my hands, climbed a 60-story tower crane, and let police pepper spray me in the face ... all for the sake of a good story.
In 2006, Columbia University offered me a fellowship to pursue my interests in science writing and the environment, which brought me to New York City. After freelancing for magazines and working at a museum, I found my way to NRDC, where I now write and edit for nrdc.org and its affiliated sites. I live in Manhattan with my wife, our cat and way too much peanut butter in the kitchen cabinet.
- Roots in:
- Pittsburgh (with stops in West Virginia, Louisiana, Oklahoma and both Carolinas along the way)
- Favorite place:
- Only one? How about biking in Riverside Park, kayaking on Long Island, watching a game at Heinz Field, or traveling just about anywhere for the first time.
- Why "environmentalism" matters:
- I've reported on floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, ice storms and many other disasters, seeing the human toll they take first hand. If that kind of experience doesn't teach you to respect nature and treat it right, nothing will.
