A Little Ditty About Rep. Upton's Dirty Air Bill

Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI), the new chair of the House Energy & Commerce Committee,seems willing to put public health at risk with his recently introduced legislation to block the Environment Protection Agency from enforcing Clean Air Act safeguards against carbon pollution. 

Upton's bill represents a very serious threat.  But I still can't help myself from parodying his bill -- to the tune of Billy Joel's classic hit "Uptown Girl."

Upton bill
You know Fred Upton’s bill will make you ill
I thought he'd never be a smokestack guy
But now he hates clean air I don’t know why

I'm gonna die from the Upton bill
‘Cuz his bill is such a poison pill
And as for anyone with healthy lungs
You’re gonna think his bill is just plain dumb
Unless pollution’s fun

And yes he knows what
He wants from those lobbyists
Unless he wakes up
He’ll make us feel sick

We see the threat to us
All because
He’s in love with his Upton bill
You know I've seen him in his chairman’s chair
We’re shocked he’s out to get the agency  
That ensures we have clean air to breathe
More heart disease

You know we’re all afraid of getting ill  
Of air pollution soon we’ll get our fill

He'll surely learn what kind of guy he’s been
And then we'll win

But when he's talking
He's starting to whine
And when he's walking
He’s crossing that fine line

He'll say he’s getting tough
Just because
He’s in love
With his Upton bill
His legislation’s gonna make us ill
As long as lobbyists can shape his stance
And Tea Party loons can make him dance
There’s no real chance
