Making an Invisible Resource Visible: Energy Efficiency Animation Video from India

Energy efficiency is an amazing source of energy – and because it comes from using less energy rather than coming from a new source it is often referred to as an “invisible resource.” By incorporating energy efficiency into the design and implementation of new construction today, building owners and tenants can significantly reduce their energy consumption and costs for decades to come. It saves us money, protects against the negative impacts of climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, enables electricity to reach energy-scarce regions by allowing better management of peak demand, creates green jobs and safeguards public health.
Recognizing these tremendous benefits of energy efficiency, students at the National Institute of Design in Bangalore created this excellent animation using statistics from my blogs that discuss our ongoing work on energy efficiency in India.

This video was part of a recent exhibition on Climate Related Energy Efficient Design of Buildings (CREED) which took place in major Indian cities as part of the “German-Indian Year,” supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The event – with its theme of Concepts and Visions on Sustainable and Smart Cities – recognizes the huge opportunity that energy efficiency offers as India stands at the crossroads of energy-saving building and infrastructure development.
