EPA Region 2 Administrator Judith Enck has just awarded the Tri-State Transportation Campaign with its Environmental Quality Award, its highest honor.   The award is given annually to individuals or organizations who significantly contribute to improving environmental quality in this region, which includes New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.  Nominated for the award by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Tri-State was honored for its many contributions to sustainable transportation and land use in New York.

“With soaring gas prices and a sluggish economic recovery, the need for more sustainable, equitable and transit-friendly communities is even greater than before," Kate Slevin, TSTC executive director said, in receiving the award.

This is a great honor for Kate Slevin and the entire Tri-State staff.  As chair of the board of Tri-State, I appreciate, every day, the hard work, creative advocacy, and incredible depth of knowledge and commitment of the folks at Tri-State.   And as any transportation advocate, planner, or official in the region knows, Tri-State’s blog, Mobilizing the Region, is a must-read if you want to know what’s going on in the transportation debates of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

Bravo and congratulations to all our friends at Tri-State!
