In a Reuters piece on a federal panel’s proposal to develop temporary storage facilities for nuclear waste, Tom Cochran notes that the panel should commission an independent review of lessons learned from Japan’s Fukushima crisis… David Goldston’s blog post criticizing a new policy aimed at increasing domestic oil drilling was cited in The Christian Science Monitor; David cautioned in his blog that the policy would weaken offshore drilling regulations…

In a Chicago Tribune article, Henry Henderson spoke about the need to improve Chicago River water quality and stop treating the river like a sewer… Henry also spoke with Earth911.com about the need for a comprehensive energy plan in Chicago, and a stronger commitment to renew and modernize the city’s energy system…

Adriano Martinez penned an op-ed in the Los Angeles Daily News highlighting the shrinking landfill space in Los Angeles, and the need to increase recycling efforts to offset this problem… Melissa Lin Perrella was quoted in The Kansas City Star on the court ruling supporting the Army Corps of Engineers’ project to construct a 490-acre freight yard in Kansas City; Melissa argued that the Corps should have done more study and an environmental impact statement for the project… Richard Liu, the senior green building expert in NRDC’s China office, explained at the World Economic and Environmental Conference in Beijing that Chinese cities must strive for industrial energy efficiency, green buildings and renewable energy in China.org.cn…
