Ate a dozen oysters on the half shell at the Flora-Bama last week. I have eaten a lot of oysters over the years, being 50 years old, but these were the first that had red tinted material around the adductor muscle and between the oyster and the shell in four of the twelve. It was... unsettling. There were no gastronomic ill effects, and the taste was normal, but I have to wonder whether I was sampling BP crude with that red material. It's very, very difficult to find any useful diagnostic information online.
