NRDC in the News 11/9: Warning for offshore drilling plan, carbon-cutting plan proposed, renewables and more...

In The New York Times, Frances Beinecke called the Obama administration to task for greenlighting new offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and Arctic Ocean in a newly released five-year plan, noting that the safety regulations recommended by the President’s oil spill commission have yet to even be implemented… also quoted Frances as saying the drilling proposal is a “reckless gamble.” Additional coverage included The Hill blog, Mother Nature Network, and Oil & Gas Journal…

Meanwhile, David Doniger praised the administration’s new proposal to cut C02 emissions from power plants in The Los Angeles Times’ Greenspace blog; David was also quoted in a Hearst News Service piece on this issue that appeared on Houston Chronicle’s Fuelfix blogBloomberg News quoted Susan Casey-Lefkowitz in a story on Nebraska’s opposition to the tar sands pipeline proposal; The Vancouver Sun also mentioned NRDC in their coverage of the Keystone XL issue… Thom Cmar criticized Congress’ consideration of a proposal to continue to allow the S.S. Badger ferry to dump coal ash into the Great Lakes in The Chicago Tribune. Thom was also quoted in The Associated Press, and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in their coverage of this issue…

E&E News carried a story about NRDC’s new mapping tool released in collaboration with the Department of Defense; The Oregonian, San Antonio Express, Deseret News, North American Windpower, E&E News and American Forces Press Service also spoke with Matthew McKinizie about the new technology… Jon Devine spoke with E&E News about EPA pollution standards for agricultural pollution… And Bob Keefe put the U.S. renewable energy industry in the perspective of the global market in a McClatchy-Tribune News Service story, which was picked up in Washington Times…
