Fighting Murkowski Resolution, Gulf Disaster Demands Cleaner Energy Future

In BusinessWeek’s The Debate Room blog, Frances Beinecke stressed that Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s resolution, which the U.S. Senate will vote on today, would prolong our addiction to oil and undermine the Clean Air Act… Dan Lashof explained to Bloomberg News that some senators voting for the Murkowski resolution will do so for purely political reasons as they move towards the November elections… In the Christian Science Monitor, David Doniger said that any victory for the proposal would be dangerous in the fight to stop climate change and spur the clean energy economy…

 

TIME.com quoted Frances Beinecke about how the oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico will spark a national conversation about the need for clean, safe energy… In an interview with NPR’s All Things Considered, Lisa Speer spoke about efforts to clean up oil on beaches in the Gulf Coast… Lisa Suatoni discussed the effects of oil and chemical dispersants on marine life with Agence France Presse… In a HealthDay article carried by BusinessWeek.com, Yahoo News and other outlets, Miriam Rotkin-Ellman explained that oil and dispersants contain toxic chemicals than can impact the health of cleanup workers and Gulf Coast residents…
