Ralph Cavanagh talks about the misguided energy measure that is Prop 7 on KQED’s Forum with Michael Krasny The Associated Press reports on a call with chief climate negotiator for South Korea, Rae-Kwon Chung; on the call Chung announced a proposal for an international climate registry where climate commitments by individual nations could be logged; Jake Schmidt suggested in the AP piece that such a registry could help break an impasse that’s been reached in international climate talks…

Scientific American (included below) and several other newspapers reported on the Northeast US Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, launched Thursday; Dale Bryk describes the implications of the initiative…The voice of NRDC is heard in an Associated Press article reporting on the progress of a bill to ban the export of mercury—a chemical that according to NRDC has historically been shipped overseas to developing countries for disposal… CBC News Canada reports that “fuels derived from Alberta's tarsands could find a tougher market in the United States after Congress decided Thursday to uphold legislation restricting imports of fuels from high-carbon sources”—Liz Barratt Brown is the first to comment on the legislation in the piece.
