Energy Solutions for the Energy Crisis

NPR references an NRDC study on the number of barrels of oil that could be saved each day by moving America drivers into plug in hybrids… Reuters and over 100 other outlets are talking today about NRDC’s newest report on the progress (and the lack of progress) made by many US states to become less oil dependent; Deron Lovaas spoke with many of the outlets, including Reuters, about the circumstances in specific states…

While maintaining the importance of emissions control measures at the Port of Long Beach, David Pettit expresses his concern in a feature Reuters piece that cleaning up the port could be stalled by lawsuits by recalcitrant companies… David also spoke with the LA Times about nighttime importation increases at the LA Port during off hours, increasing nighttime noise—in response David suggested that a switch to electric trucks could cut both pollution and noise for nearby neighborhoods…

On Bloomberg.com Roland Hwang explains that US fuel use would fall by 40 billion gallons between now and 2020 if California carbon dioxide emissions rules adopted by 16 other US states were allowed to be instituted starting this year… Amy Mall warns, in E&E News, that development of oil shale as a fuel source could threaten water resources in the already parched American west.
