Today in the News...
USA Today recounts the history of the dispute between NRDC and the Navy over sonar training, and includes information from NRDC on the irreparable harms irresponsibly used sonar can inflict on marine mammals… On CNN.com Joel Reynolds reaffirms that “the Navy can reduce the risk of [harm to dolphins and other marine mammals] by commonsense safeguards without compromising our military readiness.”… The LA Times also reports on NRDC’s Navy/sonar suit, highlighting the evidence that sonar endangers whales.
Barbara Finamore speaks about NRDC’s programmatic work in China as well as the Chinese government’s own environmental efforts, in The New Republic… Vancouver Provence: The US Conference of Mayors passed a resolution opposing the use of high-carbon fuels which, according to Susan Casey-Lefkowitz sends a message to Canada that they “to get a grip on their greenhouse gas emissions” from tar sands…On Brian Lehrer Live Deron Lovaas discusses Americans’ economic and ecological responses to rising costs of energy and oil … Last Friday a report by NY1 on NYC’s subway recycling efforts went into regular rotation—showing about once an hour.
