NRDC in the News 6/6: Coal plants, Keystone pipeline, "The Last Mountain" and more....

Bloomberg BusinessWeek ran a powerful commentary on behalf of a strengthened Clean Air Act in which Henry Henderson highlighted the situation of aging coal plants in Chicago and how the regulatory rollbacks being proposed in Washington, DC threaten to perpetuate the health problems they cause.
In the Associated Press, Anthony Swift commented on federal regulators' unprecedented decision to shut down TransCanada’s Keystone oil pipeline after its 12th spill in under a year. The story was picked up by Washington Post, The San Francisco Chronicle, NPR, CBS News, The Hill, and dozens of other outlets as a result of a blogging from Anthony Swift… The Wall Street Journal reported on NRDC’s Ocean's Initiative benefit hosted this weekend by ardent NRDC supporters Ron and Kelly Meyer; at the event 230 surfers on paddle boards formed the shape of a peace sign in the ocean and celebrity Jason Mraz sang a song proclaiming “You are a-w-e-s-o-m-e, NRDC.” Many additional outlets carried stories about the benefit including, USA Today, Just Jared, PopSugar, InStyle, Gather Celebs News Channel and The Gossip Girls.
Jake Schmidt was quoted in an Associated Press piece about the upcoming climate discussions in Bonn and the uncertain fate of the Kyoto Protocol, which will expire in 2012… In a Times-Picayune article, Ed Chen defended Obama’s nomination of John Bryson as secretary of commerce and refuted claims that NRDC is a “radical” group… Robert Kennedy Jr. was interviewed by The Huffington Post about the documentary, "The Last Mountain," and the destructive practice of mountaintop removal mining… Laura Wright Treadway’s OnEarth article about promoting “green chemistry” in academic and corporate settings was labeled a “must read” by CBS’ Smart Planet…
