Scientific American ran two articles today on the environmental and energy challenges faced by a growing China: coal vs. wind, smog vs. clean air. Timothy Hui talks about the air in China in the first article, while Barbara Finamore talks about wind power in the second article.

In a Newsweek web exclusive Sarah Janssen and Aaron Colangelo discuss Congress’ move to ban phthalates from children’s toys and NRDC’s lawsuit against the Consumer Products Safety Commission… Jim Presswood evaluates the bipartisan Senate offshore drilling plan in the Houston Chronicle, reminding readers that while the alternative energy allowances are good, the offshore drilling provisions could be disastrous for coastal communities… The Sacramento Bee ran a pointed editorial urging readers to learn more about the habitat crisis facing California’s salmon population before it’s too late, the editorial quotes and links to NRDC’s Fish Out of Water report…In Plenty Magazine Nathanael Greene explains the environmental benefits using the methane from cow manure to heat homes rather than disposing of it traditionally.
