Watching them build next gen biofuels in real time

Just a very cool link to share: Chippewa Valley Ethanol Company, LLC - Gasification update webcam. CVEC is an ethanol producer in Minnesota that is adding a biomass gasification pilot unit. Eventually they hope to replace all of the natural gas and electricity they currently use in refining corn into ethanol with energy from crop residues. This will dramatically improve the global warming foot print of the ethanol they produce and help build the market for biomass as a source of energy, a step that is needed if we're to get to biofuels made from lignocellulosic feedstocks. But the really cool thing about this link is that we can watch them building the pilot project in real time.
As I understand it, they hope to have the system running by December 2007. So watching them do construction won't exactly be a fast-paced action movie, but it's still cool! At least to a geek like me.

- Can lignin hold roads together?
- On the one hand using lignin from cellulosic ethanol plants to stabalize roads has a nice geewiz factor. On the other hand, using lignin to make better roads so that we can drive more and use more ethanol seems a little circular.
