The Lexington Herald-Leader reports that several musical acts and a storyteller have backed out of performances at the World Equestrian Games in Lexington after learning that Alliance Coal was a main sponsor of the event...and that they would be performing under a banner reading "Clean Coal."

The article quotes John Harrod of the group Kentucky Wild Horse:

"I could not in good conscience allow myself to be used as an advertisement for an industry that has bought and corrupted our legislature and consistently blocked all efforts by our state to move ahead on sustainable energy."

Hats off to Kentucky Wild Horse and the other performers who made a courageous statement by pulling out of the event: The Reel World String Band, Randy Wilson, and storyteller Octavia Sexton.

Thank you to the musicians who withdrew from the event. Taking a public stand requires courage and a dedication to speaking your truth. It is heartening to know that integrity is alive and well in the music world!
