Budget deal passes, but new drilling off CA voted down by State Assembly.

Moments ago, the California State Assembly finalized the difficult budget deal while still upholding 40 years of ocean protection precedent by not overturning the will of the State Lands Commission and allowing for new wells to be drilled off Santa Barbara. The Assembly rejected the offshore drilling trailer bill by 43 to 30 votes.
Thanks very much to those state legislators who recognized that this closed door deal was bad fiscally, procedurally, and environmentally. Yesterday I posted a blog with more information about the many problems with the deal.
