Not again

Not again

At 6pm last night, a barge carrying 65,000 barrels of black oil struck the Richmond Bridge's west span. It appears to have swung into the bridge behind the tug towing it. The Coast Guard attests that no oil was spilled, but this highlights the very real threat of increased shipping traffic to the health and wildlife of the San Francisco Bay. According to the SF Chronicle, ships have struck the Bay's bridges 50 times in the last 16 years, or a little more than 3 times each year. Maybe we should paint them all Golden Gate orange?

Kate,
It's the Golden Gate Bridge!! How do these clowns miss it? It's not like San Francisco hides it away and only brings it out for special events. It's there EVERY DAY. And it's really big (not bigger than Barry Bonds' head, sure, but still quite large). I'd say I'm surprised by the "50 times in the last 16 years" statistic, but it simply proves what I've been saying for years: people are dumb.
