About
- Bio:
Despite harboring a secret desire to be the green correspondent for "The Daily Show," I have not yet been able to resist the allure of writing sentences like: "Sec. 8375(a) It is the policy of the state to..." I started as a phycologist, peering at microscopic algae under a microscope, but as I drifted into policy it became clear that campaigns to Save the Cryptoomonads would not garner great public support. Luckily, fish are almost as fascinating and as ocean politics expands to consider ecosystems I get to draw on my knowledge of the bottom of the food chain.

- Why "environmentalism" matters:
- I tend to agree that "environmentalism" as an -ism is dead, and may it rest in peace. It built a strong foundation of laws that brought us to where we are today, where places matter and DIY culture thrives. Knowing your food and how it's grown, your neighborhood and how it gets its water, and understanding your own connections to the world--I think people today crave that sense of place and we all actively create 'the environment' every day.
