Although there has been no official announcement, Big Blue Bus is showing up on Google Transit.

This is truly exciting news for anyone trying to get around Santa Monica by bus!  It means, for example, that I was thinking of taking the 3 to get to Sweet Rose Creamery, but google maps tells me it could be faster to take the 4.  Cool.

Want to partake in the magic?  Here's how:

  • Go to Google Maps (maps. google.com) in your browser, or open the Google Maps app on your smart phone.
  • Enter your start and end address.
  • Click on the Bus icon to get public transit directions, rather than driving directions (see screen shot below with red circle around the bus icon)
  • If you want to go later, you can change your depart or arrive time
  • It will give you your top three route options in that timeframe, with travel times and detailed instructions for each.
