I had a long talk last night with my 5 yo about Memorial Day - wound up to be tough as she asked some difficult questions about "fighting and hurting people and making them dead". It is sometimes so difficult to not just see it as an extra day for a picnic or a day at the beach, especially when we don't personally have to confront the pain as part of our daily routine.
