The case for restoration of communities and nature, presented with eloquence (video)
Posted January 5, 2011 in Green Enterprise, Living Sustainably
Storm Cunningham rocks it in this video for TED, with insight, vision, and a healthy dose of highly entertaining humor. His central point is that merely conserving what we have left isn’t enough; we must also restore what we have damaged. He breaks it down into four messages:
- Sustainable development is at least 200 years too late.
- We-and future generations-can make our world healthier, wealthier and more beautiful . . . for a living.
- The process of restoring our planet and revitalizing our communities is finally becoming a rigorous discipline, with the proper education and tools.
- Restoring our world can help restore peace.
Cunningham is the founder of The Revitalization Institute and author of The Restoration Economy (2002) and reWealth (2008). The video isn’t short at 20 minutes, but give it a sample and stay if you like what you see and hear. I did.

Many thanks for the kind words, Kaid. Were you at TEDx MidAtlantic?
Let me know if there's ever anything I can do to help with your great work at NRDC.
Cheers! - Storm

Kaid, you rock for plugging Storm's work! Good on'ya! I watched Storm give his talk, (which he said he was honored by as last speaker of a long day of TEDx MidAtlantic talks!) and the audience response was exceedingly enthusiastic. My wish is that somehow more people could feel the growing sense of service, companionship and happiness that many derive from putting even just a little energy into expanding the Mother Earth renewal movement - (just talking about it helps a lot!) I hope you take Storm up on his offer of assistance - my guess is that NRDC will only benefit! I would also add a challenge for you and all folks and organizations involved in helping, or trying to help our planetary renewal, and that is to find a way to inspire children to become more involved, whether through contests of any sort; learning challenges; renewal E-games; teacher involvement; essay contests, tree planting trips (yes, even in your backyard!) and general sharing of all sorts. What other ideas can your readers dream up? Share & Pool them!
