Somehow I bet you the minivan gets better mileage than the old Fiat.

The minivan probably gets better emissions, too. But the bigger minivan still takes up more space that could be used by pedestrians or cyclists and its bigger engine and greater mass means it has more potential to be used dangerously in pedestrian-heavy Manhattan. That said, most folks who own minivans don't make them as vanity purchases.

According to the link below, the Fiat 500 got 55 MPG. Modern technology certainly is a great thing, but nothing beats a lack of mass.
