Are the days of "my building is taller than your building" coming to an end?

Taipei 101 has proudly been the tallest building in the world for the last five years, but instead of quietly slipping into the background after losing that title yesterday to Burj Dubai, Taipei 101 announced that it will achieve something that is even better than tallness: it will go green.

By 2011 Taipei 101 (501 meters tall vs. Burj Dubai's 800 meters) plans to earn LEED certification-- making it the tallest green building in the world.

Let the competition begin...

Aww crud, we are just getting around to putting double-paned glass into the Sears...errr...Willis Tower here in Chicago. Too slow to make the tall green tower claim... Second City once again...
