Joint Recommendations for the Delta Plan from the Environmental, Environmental Justice and Fishing Communities

I’ve written many times, most recently here, about the challenge that the Delta Stewardship Council faces in writing its Delta Plan – and the remarkable opportunity that plan represents. Here are joint environmental, environmental justice and fishing community recommendations for the Council to consider in writing its Plan. The detailed comments attached to the cover letter address water supply reliability and ecosystem restoration issues. As important as these issues are, the Council must address a broad range of other issues as well, including financing, governance, flood management and other in-Delta issues. Future recommendations will address these issues.
These recommendations represents a significant amount of common ground among 30 national, regional and grassroots groups with a wide range of perspectives on water issues. They also point – in these two key areas – to literally dozens of promising approaches to developing a visionary and realistic Delta Plan.
