Alba Garzon, Communications Assistant, New York City
I've been with NRDC since late July of 2005, helping the Communications Department with all their administrative needs. A die-hard recycler, I have a habit of not discarding post-its or scrap paper unless I've used every possible inch. This can make my desk a wee bit messy...
Before entering the world of professional environmentalism, I spent a year doing social work with homeless women in the South Bronx. I've also had stints as a fashion production coordinator and radio producer. I majored in Political Science and Human Rights at Barnard College where I became very active in the Latino and Queer communities, both on and off campus.
When not in the office or volunteering, I do tech-work and stage-managing for a women's theater collective (WOW Cafe Theater). I also enjoy dancing tango, salsa, two-step, capoeira, and anything I can move to. I have a growing obsession with roller derby, and oh yes, I'm also a "Burner" (see my first post).
