Amrita Batra, Program Assistant, India Initiative and Food and Agriculture, San Francisco
Growing up in Mumbai, India, I’ve been equally delighted and concerned by the many, many changes that have taken place in the country over the past two decades. As India continues to experience the effects of its rapid economic growth, it faces the incredible challenge of translating this economic growth into a sustainable and equitable future for over a billion citizens. As a Program Assistant for NRDC’s Sustainable Agriculture Program, and India Initiative, I’m learning about NRDC’s contribution towards developing a fair and sustainable future from two distinct, yet equally important efforts: one that is working to develop and strengthen sustainable and fair food systems in the United States, and another that is helping India achieve its goal of a low carbon energy future.
